LGBT friendly Animes pt. 2

This is pt. 2, Read pt. 1 here.

A Centaurs Life - English dubbed, 12 episode long slice-of-life comedy Anime set in a police state world masked as a haven of equality where humanity took a different evolutionary path and ended up with 6 limbs instead of 4. This resulted in the creation of races such as Centaurs, Satyrs, Merfolk, and Demons. At first glance this seems like your typical crack-ey comedy, but it actually has some really interesting discussions about race (in their fantasy setting) and discrimination that can be easily applied to our world. The couple featured in the gif below are canon girlfriends, the show opens with a lesbian kiss, and the Angel with the white hair has a whole episode dedicated to her going on a date with another girl. If you want a funny, easy to watch gay Anime, this is for you!

Banana Fish - 24 episode crime thriller with no dub available. Banana Fish follows the seventeen year old gang leader Ash Lynx. He’s busy running the biggest gang in New York City when he encounters a dying man in the street. The man hands him a vial and murmurs “Banana Fish” before passing. Ash recognizes them and begins to investigate because they are the only words his war veteran brother can manage to say after returning home. Ash and Eiji’s love story progresses really naturally and doesnt give off the same fetishy vibe that a lot of Animes focusing on gay/bi men tend to have.

While there she meets her roomate, Hagino, a well liked and respected member of the school who after brushing hands with her immediately attempts to strangle her.

Canaan - English Dubbed 13 episode long thriller. This one is less explicitly gay than the others on this list, and more just heavily implied. It centers around three women and the way they are interconnected with each other. Canaan is a middle eastern assassin and mercenary with a strong connection to Maria Osawa, a victim of an attempted biological terrorist attack. Alphard is a member of terrorist organization “Snake” and Canaan’s rival.

Izetta: The Last Witch - English dubbed 12 episode Action-Fantasy Anime. Depending on your point of view this can be read as just a heavily implied relationship, but one moment in the series basically confirms that they’re gay and together. The story is set in an alternate Earth on the brink of a second World War and follows Princess Finé as she enlists the help of Izetta, the last remaining witch, to help her defend her country of Eylstadt from invasion by the brutal, imperialistic forces of Germania. The animation on this is seriously amazing, particularly during the flying scenes!

Sailor Moon/Sailor Moon: Crystal - Story following the adventures of schoolgirl Usagi Tsukino as she transforms into a magical girl and searches for a lost artifact with a diverse group of comrades. English dub available. The original Sailor Moon had 200 something episodes spread across its seasons (Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, Sailor Moon SuperS and Sailor Moon Sailor Stars.) The 2014 remake is Sailor Moon: Crystal and has 39 episodes total. There were also three films made in the 90s: Sailor Moon R: The Movie, Sailor Moon S: The Movie, and Sailor Moon Super S: The Movie. A lot of queer moments were censored when this show was originally dubbed for the west (They took out many gay & gnc characters and portrayed the lesbian couple as cousins, which they are not) but Sailor Moon: Crystal and the new dub for the og Sailor Moon (the one by Viz Dubs) have fixed a lot of those issues!

Sakura Trick - I’m going to be real with you, this has no plot. But its also gay, not hugely problematic, and it takes very little brain power to enjoy. It’s a cute slice of life rom-com between two girls who decide to be “kissing friends” after they realize they’ve grown apart since entering high school. There’s 12 episodes available, subtitled only.
